An Oklahoma City man is hoping surveillance video will help police catch a suspect caught on camera stealing from his children.

The crime is the latest in a string of problems for a SW Oklahoma City neighborhood. Residents say they are no longer waiting for police to solve their problems. They're doing their own detective work and are banding together to stop a rash of break-ins and burglaries.

Homeowner Michael Johnson tells News 9 his family was victimized early Sunday morning when cameras caught someone stealing things from his property. Johnson is now sharing the images with News 9 and is blasting them all over Facebook.

"Steal from me, I don't care. But steal from my kids, that's pretty low," Johnson said.

Johnson says his video is a slam dunk ... showing the suspect hauling off two bikes and a pressure washer from the side of his home.

Neighbors say it's time for the saga to end. They report vehicles have been broken into, while appliances and copper wiring of homes under construction have been stolen.

"I've had this happen before and have had stuff stolen," Johnson said. "You call it in, and [police] just take a report over the phone sometimes. They don't even send an officer out … I think it's pretty much just left up to the citizens to track down the best information they can and turn it into police."

Johnson says detectives have yet to pick up the video he gave News 9 to broadcast, but police are still working the case. If you recognize the person on the video, call Oklahoma City Police at (405) 235-7300.

Johnson says he is now working with his homeowners' association to extend a fence along SW 29th St. behind his home and add a fence of his own around his backyard.
