Oklahoma House Approves Nursing Home Camera Proposal

The Oklahoma House has approved a bill that says people can't be denied residence or kicked out of nursing homes if they or their families place cameras in their rooms.

The bill passed without opposition Monday. It now goes back to the Senate for further consideration.

Republican Rep. Harold Wright carried the proposal that says nursing home residents can have recorders in their rooms if they agree. Any roommates would also have to agree. The bill says no one can damage or obstruct the camera.

The bill aims to address abuse by nursing home staff members.

Marilyn Kipps of Prague -- who attended a House committee hearing to support the bill -- says she put a camera in her mother's room and saw a staff member hitting her mother.
