WASHITA COUNTY, Oklahoma -

A Washita County Sheriff's deputy was killed in a two-vehicle collision, when he was on his way to respond to an emergency in Corn, Oklahoma, early Sunday morning.

It happened just after midnight, about one mile west of Corn on State Highway 54A, at county road EW 1130 and NS 2350 Road in Washita County.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a pickup truck driven by 44-year-old Deputy Douglas Hanna was eastbound on Corn Road (state highway 54A,) when another pickup driven by a 17-year-old boy failed to stop at a stop sign, and crashed into Hanna's truck.

The teenager's pickup was northbound on county road 2350 at that time.

Hanna's pickup then entered a broad slide, ran off the roadway to the left, and rolled about two and a quarter times before coming to rest on the driver's side.

Hanna was partially thrown out of the vehicle during the collision. He was pronounced dead at the scene due to head injuries. He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Following the collision, the teenager's pickup also rolled a quarter times, landing on the driver's side next to a fence.

The 17-year-old suffered injuries to his ankle. He was transported to a Weatherford hospital and was treated and released.

Troopers listed the cause of the collision as "failure to stop at stop sign" in the OHP collision report.
