The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for portions of Oklahoma and Arkansas through 11 p.m.

Scattered intense thunderstorms may develop along a surface front moving across an area basically southeast of Interstate 44 with the main severe weather threats being large hail and damaging wind gusts, according to WARN Team Chief Meteorologist Travis Meyer.

"Wednesday has a higher probability of severe weather across the central part of Oklahoma that includes here in northeastern Oklahoma and southeastern Kansas," Meyer said Monday night.

Counties included in Monday's watch area in northeastern Oklahoma are Adair, Delaware, Mayes, Okmulgee and Wagoner. Other Oklahoma counties are Choctaw, Haskell, Latimer, Le Flore, McIntosh, Pittsburg and Pushmataha.

Northwest Arkansas counties are Benton, Carroll, Crawford, Madison and Washington.

A tornado watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. People in the areas affected by the watch should stay aware of weather conditions and listen for updates through the evening.
