Lawton Woman Killed After Crashing Car In Cotton County

A Lawton woman was killed after she crashed her vehicle in Cotton County Friday afternoon. It happened at 3:25 p.m. at mile marker 9.7 on the H.E. Bailey Turnpike in Cotton County.

A Lawton woman was killed after she crashed her vehicle in Cotton County Friday afternoon. It happened at 3:25 p.m. at mile marker 9.7 on the H.E. Bailey Turnpike in Cotton County.

A 2007 Lincoln Navigator driven by 69-year-old Sally Luverne was southbound on the H.E. Bailey Turnpike, when it ran off the roadway to the right for an unknown reason, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The car traveled about 464 feet before vaulting 45 feet. It then hit the support for a bridge.

Luverne was pinned inside the vehicle for about 50 minutes before being freed by Randlett firefighters. She was pronounced dead at the scene due to massive injuries.

Luverne's condition at the time of the collision is listed as "unknown" in the OHP collision report.
