Several families were evacuated into the cold in the middle of the night when a fire at one house also threatened nearby homes.
The fire started around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 4000 block of N.W. 19th Street. When firefighters arrived, flames were shooting from several parts of the house. The fire was so large and intense, it burned the siding on homes on either side of the house.
As a precaution, firefighters evacuated neighbors while they battled the flames.
"When we arrived on scene, this house was totally involved," said Oklahoma City Fire Department Battalion Chief Randy Cornelius. "The roof was completely burned off. Due to the cold weather, it's going to steam for a while before we can actually get in to get a good look at what's going on inside."
The house was destroyed. Investigators are calling the fire suspicious. This was the second time in a week fire crews were called to the house. No one was living in the house because of that earlier fire, and all the utilities had been turned off.
No one was hurt.
