Copper Thieves Destroy A/C Units At Two OKC Schools

Posted: Updated:

It will cost two Oklahoma City schools hundreds of thousands of dollars to repair the damage done by copper thieves who ripped apart large air conditioning units.

On March 18, maintenance workers at both Moon Academy and the Classen School of Advanced Studies discovered thieves had ripped the copper coils from the units.

The thieves broke into a fenced area at Moon Academy, located at 1901 N.E. 13th Street. They cut the cooling coils and stole the copper. Maintenance workers estimated it would cost between $400,000 and $600,000 to repair the damage.

At Classen SAS at 1901 N. Ellison, thieves caused about $20,000 in damage when they stripped copper from an air conditioning unit.

Police do not have any suspects in the crimes. They are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at (405) 235-7300. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
