SE Remains No. 5 In NFCA National Poll

Posted: Updated:
DURANT, Oklahoma -

For the third-straight week Southeastern has held onto the No. 5 ranking in the NFCA Division II National Poll.

The three weeks in-a-row at No. 5 match the three-straight weeks the Savage Storm held onto the No. 2 position starting with the first regular season poll and means that SE has been a top-5 team four six consecutive weeks.

The Storm were limited to just two games last week due to weather, but swept Southern Nazarene to improve its season record to 27-6.

Unfortunately, that was not enough work to gain any ground on the teams ahead of SE and in fact brought the its total points in the poll down to 310, just six points ahead of North Georgia in sixth place, a gap that was 36 points wide a week ago.

The gap between SE and the No. 4 team Armstrong Atlantic also grow from 20 points a week ago to 48 this week. AAU is 22-3-1 on the season.

West Texas A&M becomes the first unanimous No. 1 team since the regular season polls began, improving to 24-2 on the year and compiling 400 points by picking up all 16 first place votes.

Indianapolis remained in second place at 24-2 with 380 points, while Valdosta State held onto No. 3 at 23-6 with 364 points.

The Storm have the most wins of any of the top-five teams.

Once again, Southeastern is the only Great American Conference team ranked in the poll and is the leader of a group of four teams that have climbed into the top 25 from the Central region.

Central Oklahoma moved back into the top-10 to No. 9 with a 20-5 record, while Fort Hays State is at No. 17 with a 23-5 record and Missouri Western State enters the poll for the first time at No. 24 with a 20-8 record.

Southeastern will be back on the field March 29-30 when it faces GAC foe Arkansas Tech in a four-game series in Russellville, Ark.
