OSBI Identifies Inmate Found Dead At Oklahoma County Jail

At about 5:40 p.m. Monday, a staff member at the jail found inmate Artie Hales injured on the 10th floor of the jail. Emergency crews responded and determined Hales was dead.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has identified a male inmate who was found dead at the Oklahoma County Jail Monday afternoon.

According to the OSBI, at about 5:40 p.m., a staff member at the jail found inmate Artie Hales injured on the 10th floor of the jail. Emergency crews responded and determined Hales was dead.

Authorities say injuries to Hales’ body are consistent with homicide.

The medical examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death.

Hales, 55, was booked into the jail March 11 on numerous misdemeanors, including littering,disorderly conduct, and failure to appear. Hales did not list a residence and was considered transient, according to the OSBI.

The OSBI will compile information from the investigation and present a report to the district attorney. No one has been arrested at this time.
