The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced four St. Gregory’s University basketball players have been named 2012-13 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes. Women’s players Heather Anderson and Leticia Silva along with men’s players John Clark and Brock Vorwald made the list.

In order to be nominated for the honor, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved junior academic status.

Anderson, a senior from Dale, averaged 4.4 points and 3.2 rebounds in 31 games this season for the Cavaliers. She is majoring in communications and has a 3.62 GPA. Anderson is part of the Theta Chi Omega sorority, president of the Student Government Association and is a member of the SGU women’s soccer team.

Silva, a senior from Whitesboro, Texas, has a 3.79 GPA while majoring in biomedical sciences. She led the Cavaliers and was second in the conference in scoring. Silva, a first-team all-conference selection this year, became SGU’s all-time leading scorer this season and finished her career with 1,842 points. In January, she was named to the Capital One Academic All-District VII first team.

Clark, a junior from Moore, played in 15 games this season after recovering from the third ACL injury of his career. He averaged just less than 14 minutes per game and finished sixth on the team in steals. He is a past NAIA Scholar Athlete and received the Fr. Victor Roberts Scholar Athlete Award last year. Clark has a 3.97 GPA while majoring in social studies education.

Vorwald, a junior from Norman, has a 3.84 GPA while majoring in biomedical sciences. He started 17 games this season and was second on the team in scoring. Vorwald has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District VII first team in both soccer and basketball and is a three-time Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete. He is parliamentarian of SGU’s Student Government Association.
