OKLAHOMA CITY -
It's an ending to an Oklahoma high
school basketball game that's getting more and more national headlines.
You can't help but feel for the
player from Hugo who made a last-second shot into the wrong basket to give Millwood
the win. Now, the OKC Thunder is showing their support to the high school
athlete.
The Thunder invited the Hugo
guard, Trey Johnson to Sunday's Thunder game against the Boston Celtics; a
gesture that speaks for itself, according to Thunder officials.
Johnson accepted the invite,
sitting courtside during the game at Chesapeake Arena Sunday afternoon.
The story about Johnson's mistake last week
has turned more into one of empathy for this kid, so much so, that even the
Thunder wanted to give him a special day.
So, Johnson met
with Thunder general manager Sam Presti Sunday morning and then was able to
meet many of the players during their pre-game warm ups. He then enjoyed
the game as a guest of the team.
Then, after the Thunder win,
Russell Westbrook took off his shoes, signed them and gave them to Johnson.
Johnson is a junior, so he does have another year of high school
ball to redeem himself.
