MUSTANG, Oklahoma -
Mustang
police confirm they arrested three students for drug-related charges, but Wednesday
night, one mom says she's upset with how the school handled the situation.
This mom
says her son was one of 10 students suspended, suspected of doing and dealing
drugs. But she says the school went too far and she plans to fight.
"I was
shocked," said mother, Cassie Lindsey.
Lindsey
says she's already visited with an attorney about her son's suspension.
"Principal…Foreman
informed me that some kids had gotten in trouble for some drugs and my son was
constantly saying ‘It wasn't me. It wasn't me,'" said Lindsey.
She even
made her son take a drug test, which she says came back clean.
"Everything
is negative," Lindsey said.
She even
showed News 9 the results as proof.
Mustang School
officials did not talk to News 9 about the arrests or the suspensions. But they
did release a statement about the incident. In it is says the district
"became aware of allegations that several students were possibly in
possession of illegal substances. And that both they and police were "launching
investigations".
"I don't
think the children that were caught with nothing on them should be suspended. In
fact, there is one child who was tested, who was not suspended who is still
going to school," Lindsey said.
This mom says
the school did not follow school policy and should have notified parents and
students about the suspensions and the investigation.
"They've
suspended kids without proof. They searched kids without parental consent and I
think the kids' rights have been violated. I think parents are upset because
their children were violated," said Lindsey.
Lindsey
says she plans to go up to the school Thursday morning with her son to see if
the suspension will be lifted or if they will finally give her written proof of
why her son was kicked out.
Mustang
police also declined News 9's request for an on-camera interview. They would
only say a 14, 15, and 17-year-old student were arrested. And that a substance
suspected to be synthetic marijuana was seized and will be sent to the OSBI for
analysis.
