Cowboys Top UC-Davis

The middle of the Oklahoma State lineup carried the Cowboys to their seventh-straight win Saturday as OSU topped UC Davis, 10-4, at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.

At 9-1, OSU is off to its best start since 2009 when the Cowboys also won nine of their first 10 games.

The Cowboys' 4-5-6 hitters – Tanner Krietemeier, Zach Fish and Victor Romero – torched UCD pitching in Saturday's win as that trio combined to drive in all 10 of OSU's runs and collect eight hits of its 16 hits. Fish and Krietemeier each had three hits, while Fish tied a career high with four RBIs.

"The story of today was the offensive outburst early – those guys swung the bats extremely well and took control of the game on the offensive side," said OSU head coach Josh Holliday. "Their pitcher made mistakes early in the game, and our hitters were right on it. We didn't give him a chance to get settled in; we made him uncomfortable in the first inning and got some big swings."

"When the middle of your order is producing like that and the guys in the front are getting on, you've got a chance to have a pretty good day."

OSU's big early lead allowed Phillip Wilson to pick up his first-career win in relief. Wilson came on in the fourth to relieve starter Jon Perrin, and the junior right-hander worked three scoreless innings.

The Cowboys will look for their second consecutive weekend series sweep Sunday at 1 p.m

Sooners Fall To Pepperdine

The No. 10-ranked University of Oklahoma baseball team suffered its first defeat of the 2013 season, falling to No. 29-ranked Pepperdine, 7-2, Saturday at L. Dale Mitchell Park.

The loss to the Waves (7-4) snapped a 10-game winning streak to open the 2013 campaign for the Sooners (10-1).

Junior infielder Matt Oberste continued his solid start to the season, going 3-for-4 with a triple and his team-leading fourth home run of the year. The two-time reigning Big 12 Conference Player of the Week has hit safely in 14 consecutive games dating back to the 2012 season and has posted a team-high six multi-hit games so far in 2013.

Freshman infielder Kolbey Carpenter tallied a career-high three hits while freshman outfielder Craig Aikin contributed two base knocks.

Junior right-handed starting pitcher Jonathan Gray fanned seven over six innings but was saddled with the pitching loss, falling to 2-1 on the season.

The Sooners go for the weekend series victory over the Waves Sunday at L. Dale Mitchell Park.

ORU Wins

Junior pitcher Alex Gonzalez struck out nine Southeast Missouri State batters as Oral Roberts tops the Redhawks on a snowing Saturday afternoon, 3-1.

The Golden Eagles improve their record to .500 at 4-4, while the Redhawks drop to 6-4 on the season. The two teams will play a pair of games on Sunday, with the first beginning at noon.

The Golden Eagles struck first in the top of the fourth on a two-run homerun over the left field wall off the bat of Tyler Boss. It was Boss' first home run as a Golden Eagle and would be all the runs support Gonzalez needed in a dominant performance.

Gonzalez pitched seven innings, allowing just six hits and one run.
