Suspects Identified In Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting In OKC

Authorities have identified the suspects in a fatal officer-involved shooting in northwest Oklahoma City.

Marcus Dewayne Patterson, 35, was shot and killed by a police officer in the parking lot of the Express Mart in the 6200 block of W. Wilshire.

Police say officers dressed in plain clothes were called to the area to check on a complaint of drug activity. The officers approached a car when they believed Patterson to be involved in a drug deal.

However, when the undercover officers identified themselves as police, Patterson tried to run them over. One officer, later identified as Sgt. Charles Schamel, was hit by the suspect's car.

Sgt. Schamel fired one shot at Patterson in self-defense, police said. Patterson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other suspects, 20-year-old Dillan Wheeler and 20-year-old Dylan Robinson, were also taken into custody on felony murder charges. Wheeler was in the front seat of the suspect car at the time of the incident.

Sgt. Schamel is 13-year-veteran with the Oklahoma City police's Hefner division. He has been placed on routine administrative leave pending outcome of the investigation.
