SE Baseball Sweeps TSU In Double-Header

Southeastern got the bats moving on Tuesday afternoon, picking up 16 hits over two games en route to a double-header sweep of Tarleton State, winning game on 6-2 before taking the nightcap 6-3.

The wins push the Savage Storm back over .500 on the season with a 7-6 record heading into an important home conference series with Harding that begins with a noon double-header on March 2.

The play of the day came in game two as SE looked to rally from a 3-0 deficit in the fifth inning.

Ryan Salter and Tucker Alexander had closed the gap to 3-2 and the bases were loaded when Evan Ramsey stepped to the plate and blasted a ball down the left field line that stayed fair for his first grand slam of the season and third home run overall, and also put Southeastern up 6-3.

That would hold to be the final as Cameron Mann would come on in the seventh inning to collect his fourth save of the season, second of the day.

Five different SE players collected hits in the contest, with Ramsey connecting on the lone extra base hit of the contest.

Ramsey's four RBI led all players in the game, while Salter and Alexander each added one.

Canyon Conley got the start and tossed 3.1 innings before handing the ball to Eddie Cervantes who collected his third win of the season by tossing 2.2 hitless innings with a pair of strikeouts.

Mann would fan two in his one inning of work for the save.

The Storm spread the scoring around in the first game, jumping ahead early with a run in the first off an Alexander double that plated Troy McCartney.

They added two more in the second, the first coming off a Mark Frank RBI single and the second coming off a Salter fielder's choice that put SE up 3-0.

Chevis Springer would drive in Aaron Chalk in the fourth to push the lead to 4-0.

Salter and McCartney would each add RBI in the sixth to push the lead to 6-0.

The Texans would get two back in the top of the seventh, but SE would end the rally when Mann came on to record the final two outs.

David Cagle earned the win after tossing 4.2 innings without allowing a run and striking out six.

He handed the ball to Mann in the fifth to record the final out of the inning, and Mann was moved to first base as Levi Lewis came on to pitch.

Lewis was touched for the two runs in the top of the seventh before Mann reentered from first base and retired the final two outs to collect the save.

Springer, Chalk and Frank each posted two hits outings as the Storm had eight players collect a total of 11 hits in the game.

Salter drove in a pair of runs, while four others had one RBI each.
