ENID, Oklahoma -

Tens of thousands in the Enid area lost power Monday night and Tuesday morning as a strong winter storm with whipping winds and heavy snow barreled through the area. While the snow was bad in some areas, downed power lines were to blame for many road closures including Highway 81 South of Kingfisher.

Several road through Enid neighborhoods were also closed because of sagging or snapped power lines. Heavy snow and ice weighed many lines down. At least 21,000 electric customers lost power in Enid. Crews worked to get as many customers back online as quickly as possible Tuesday morning.

In addition to the power outages, motorists had a hard time navigating through Enid streets, especially side-streets that crews had not had the opportunity to plow. Even some of the main roads still had accumulated snow in spots.
