OSU Sweeps NJIT

Oklahoma State extended its winning streak to four games with its second-straight doubleheader sweep Saturday as the Cowboys knocked off New Jersey Institute of Technology, 11-1 and 6-3.

Jason Hursh threw a seven-inning complete game in the run-rule win in game one and was aided by 15 hits from his offense, while in the nightcap, OSU used a pair of three-run innings to give Vince Wheeland his first victory of the season as the Cowboys improved to 6-1 on the season.

Offensively, OSU was led by catcher Victor Romero, who was 5-for-8 with four RBIs in the twinbill, and shortstop Randy McCurry, who added five hits and three RBIs.

Zach Fish, Romero and Robbie Rea each had three hits in the opener, while Rea and McCurry drove in three runs apiece.

The second contest was close throughout.

After 3.5 scoreless innings, OSU rallied for three runs in the fourth off NJIT starter Tripp Davis. The Cowboys loaded the bases with no outs, and Tanner Krietemeier delivered a sacrifice fly for the game's first run. Following the second out, Romero and Whaley recorded back-to-back RBI singles to give the home team a three-run advantage.

NJIT cut the lead to 3-2 in the sixth and continued to push in the seventh but OSU added some insurance in the bottom of the seventh inning, adding runs on a double play, a balk and an RBI double off the bat of Romero to go up 6-3.

The two teams close out the series Sunday with a game set to begin at noon.

OU Hangs On To Beat Texas A&M-CC

The No. 14-ranked University of Oklahoma baseball team rattled off its eighth straight victory to begin the 2013 season, knocking off Texas A&M Corpus Christi, 4-2, in the second game of the 2013 Kleberg Bank College Classic for both squads Saturday at Whataburger Field, the home of the Houston Astros' Double-A affiliate, the Corpus Christi Hooks.

The Sooners are off to their best start since flying out of the gates to a 16-0 start in 2011. OU is now 2-0 all-time against the Islanders (3-4).

Junior right-handed pitcher Jonathan Gray went seven innings and struck out six to earn the win on the hill for Oklahoma and improve to 2-0 on the season. Freshman left-handed pitcher Jacob Evans earned his second career save.

Junior infielder Matt Oberste tallied a two-RBI base hit and extended his hitting streak to 11 straight games dating back to the 2012 season.

Oklahoma closes out its time at the 2013 Kleberg Bank College Classic when it takes on New Mexico tomorrow morning. First pitch is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.

ORU Defeats Louisiana Tech

Chris Williams hit a three-run go ahead homerun and Brad Fisher sat down the final two batters as the Oral Roberts baseball team survived against Louisiana Tech on Saturday, 5-4.

After giving up a run in the bottom of the seventh, the Golden Eagles were running out of opportunities to regain the lead. However, Williams' home run quickly changed the game around in the top of the eighth.  It was Williams' third home run of the season.

The Golden Eagles improve to 2-4 on the year, while the Bulldogs drop to 2-4. The rubber game of the three-game set is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
