OKLAHOMA CITY -

New court documents reveal a dispute over a truck led to a fatal shooting involving an Oklahoma City pastor and his son-in-law.

Michael Scott Elder, 53, is accused in the shooting death of his son-in-law, Gary Lance Davidson. According to an affidavit released on Friday, the victim was trying to pull his estranged wife out of a moving truck when he was shot and killed by Elder.

Police say the victim and his estranged wife were in the process of getting a divorce, and the truck was in both their names.

Officers responded to the shooting just before 6 p.m. Wednesday, at 2701 N.W. 12th Street in Oklahoma City. When officers arrived, they found Davidson dead at the scene.

The victim's estranged wife, April Davidson, told police they had gotten into an argument over the truck. April's father, Michael Elder, took the truck on Tuesday. Gary Davidson called police and the truck was later released to April.

Later that day, Gary Davidson picked up his daughter, who has been living with April since the separation, and took her to his house. April said Gary took their daughter in retaliation for her taking the truck.

On Wednesday, April made arrangements with Gary to get their daughter in exchange for the truck. Her father, Elder, followed her there in his vehicle.

Gary reportedly refused to give their daughter to April. April began driving the truck away; that's when Gary jumped into the passenger side of the truck and grabbed April.

April said Gary then began pulling her out of the truck while it was moving. She had her foot on the brake, but Gary had his foot on the gas petal, causing the truck to continue rolling down the street.

Elder ran along the passenger side of the truck. He told Gary Davidson to stop assaulting April, that's when April said she heard at least one gunshot.

Gary then fell to the ground and died. April told police it was her father who shot Gary.

Elder is said to be the pastor at The Cross Baptist Church on S.W. 96th Street in Oklahoma City. He is currently being held in the Oklahoma county jail accused of murder. It will be up to the Oklahoma County district attorney's office to determine what charge he will face.
