Judge Sentences Man Who Shot Off-Duty Oklahoma County Deputy

The man who shot and robbed an off-duty Oklahoma County deputy is sentenced Thursday.

Christopher Baker, 30, was convicted in December 2012 of shooting Major John Waldenville.

Strong words from Judge Kenneth Watson Thursday morning before he sentenced Baker to the harshest sentence possible.

"You are a disgrace to your family, you are a disgrace to our race," said Judge Watson. "If I could put you on death row and let you set there forever I would. You are cold blooded."

Judge Watson sentenced Baker to the jury recommended life for the shooting with intent to kill charge plus 30 years for the robbery charge, to be served consecutively. Judge Watson said he was going recommend Baker be placed in isolation in Mcalester

In May 2011, Baker shot Major Waldenville while the off-duty deputy was working security at Cattleman's Steakhouse. Major Waldenville was taking a bank bag full of money to deposit at a nearby bank when he was rushed from behind, overtaken by two men, robbed of the bank bag and shot.

Major Waldenville was shot in the face. He lost one of his eyes, and has spent months in physical therapy.
