Crash Involving Prisoner Transport Van Causes Snarl On EB I-44

Posted: Updated:

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Troopers responded to an accident on the eastbound side of the Turner Turnpike, east of Luther, involving two vehicles, including one out of Tulsa County that was transporting prisoners, Friday evening.

Emergency workers say a total of seven people, six prisoners and the driver of the second vehicle, needed to be transported to the hospital from this accident. All were considered in good condition.

All eastbound lanes of I-44 had to be shut down so emergency workers could treat the injured and clear the scene of wreckage. Traffic on the turnpike was briefly diverted at mile marker 151.

The cause of the crash is not known at this time.
