OKLAHOMA CITY -

Oklahoma City police are looking for a driver accused of hitting metro high school football player, costing the athlete part of his leg.

Witnesses say the hit and run was the product of an underage drinking party and a fight among dozens of teens.

The victim, 16-year-old Austin Beery, tells News 9 he was feeling better late Monday, but he is still down for the count with two broken legs and only one foot.

"I really thought that young boy was going to be fatally injured," eyewitness Tony Vince said.

Witnesses say roughly 30 teens, drugs and alcohol packed a Southwest Oklahoma City mobile home Saturday. Police say, at some point, a fight broke out causing the suspect and others to go for a joy ride.

"[The suspect made a] head-to-head impact with the kid pinched in between the cars," Vince said.

Vince says he saw bones sticking out of Beery's legs and then yelled for his wife to call 911. There was no time to make an arrest, according to witnesses.

"The car then backed up, turned, got out of the way and just took off like a bat out of hell around the corner," Vince said.

Police said they were still investigating as of late Monday and were not prepared to release suspect information at that time.

Doctors tell Beery he will likely be hospitalized for at least two weeks.
