A wind advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. for several northeast Oklahoma counties and two Kansas counties.

Strong southwest winds with gusts of up to 45 mph are possible, according to the National Weather Service in Tulsa.

Counties under the advisory are Craig, Osage, Ottawa, Washington and Nowata. Kansas counties are Chautauqua and Montgomery. The strongest winds are expected near the Kansas border. They should die down around sunset.

Drivers - especially those with high profile vehicles - should use caution. Sudden gusts of winds may cause drivers to lose control. Be prepared for strong crosswinds on bridges and overpasses.

A fire weather alert is also in effect until 6 p.m. for the several counties includingTulsa, Rogers, Creek, Mayes, Okmulgee, Wagoner, Adair, Delaware, and Muskogee. Winds and relatively low humidities combine with unseasonably warm temperatures to make a high fire danger, according to the National Weather Service.
