A former Boynton volunteer firefighter pleaded guilty to third-degree arson Thursday in Muskogee County court.

Dustin Davis was charged in August 2012 following an investigation by the Muskogee County Sheriff's Office into several grass and brush fires near Boynton.

The sheriff's office says the fires appeared to have been set and were always near lakes so firefighters would have plenty of water to put them out.

Investigators say each time, it was Davis who called in to report the fire using his cell phone.

According to court records, Davis agreed to a plea deal and was given a 5-year deferred sentenced, ordered to pay a $1,000 fine and restitution to the Boynton Volunteer Fire Department.

He also agreed to never seek employment as a firefighter.
