Changes On The Way To State's 6A Division

Oklahoma City, OK -

Members of the Oklahoma Schools Secondary Activities Association voted Wednesday on a proposal that will change how the state's Class 6A Division is set up.

The proposal, presented by the Constitution and Rules Review committee, has two options and will now be given to the state's 6A membership for a vote. Since the 2013 districts are already set up, changes will affect the 2014 season.

The first option will split the class into two 16-team divisions consisting of the largest 16 schools and a second division consisting of the next 16 schools. Each division would consist of two eight-team districts and the top 4 finishers in each district will advance to the playoffs. Each division will have its own champion.

The second option will keep the Class 6A with its current four 8-team districts. Each school is to play the other schools in the assigned district. Each district will be divided into two divisions, four schools from Division 1 (the top 16 enrollment) and four schools from Division II (the smallest 16 enrollment). The top two finishers in each district division will advance to the playoffs. Only games within a team's district division will count for playoff advancement.

The playoffs will consist of eight total schools from Division I and eight schools from Division II. One champion will be determined from all Division I schools and one from all Division II schools.

A simple majority is all that is needed among the 6A membership schools.
