A metro man is attacked in his own driveway as he warms up his car. Now, he's pretty banged up and his attacker is on the run.

News 9 talked to the victim Tuesday evening. He has visible cuts and bruises on his face after he says he was pistol whipped by suspect. It happened around 5 a.m. Tuesday, and understandably, since the suspect is still on the loose, he did not want to speak on camera in fear of retaliation.

"I just can't believe that happened to my neighbor, that's right next door," Lola Adeyemi said.

After letting his car warm up for about 15 minutes, the victim, who does not want to be identified, walked outside his home to leave for work. According to the police report, as he approached his car to unlock the door, he was grabbed from behind.

"He was suddenly approached by this man, said OKC Police Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow. "He came up from behind, grabbed him, and begin assaulting him."

Police say the suspect was wearing all dark clothing, and a ski mask, where only his eyes and mouth were visible. Before any words were exchanged, the victim was hit several times with a pistol.

"He was pretty beat up, looked like he had a broken nose, and it was really disturbing," said Adeyemi. "I just can't believe someone would hit him with a gun like that."

The victim's wife and two young children were still sleeping inside the home.

"It makes me feel like he was watching us, or, I don't know," said Adeyemi. "So now I wonder if it was someone around here."

Police say, during the ambush, the suspect repeatedly demanded money. The victim handed over his wallet, and the attacker removed his debit card, then asked for the pin number. The suspect got away on foot.

Oklahoma City police discourage letting your car run unattended, especially when it's cold out. Police also say while it may be an inconvenience, it's safer to go out to your car about 10 or 15 minutes early and sit inside it as it warms up.
