Durant, Westbrook Combine For 77 Points To Sink Suns

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX, Arizona -

Second night of a back-to-back. No Serge Ibaka. No problem.

Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook put on a scoring clinic in Phoenix Monday night, accounting for 77 points in the Thunder's 102-90 win over the Suns.

Durant finished with 41 points and five rebounds while Westbrook added 36, eight boards and five assists.

The game began as a three-man show for the Thunder. Westbrook's 16 points, Durant's 14 and Kevin Martin's 12 combined for 42 of OKC's 51 first-half points. The big three shot an impressive 17-31 to give the Thunder the 51-45 lead at the break.

The Thunder opened the third looking to run away from Phoenix, beginning the quarter on a 17-9 run to 68-54 advantage with just 5:22 remaining, but the Suns fired back.

Phoenix closed the period on a 14-4 run to cut the OKC lead to just 72-68. The Thunder did not score a bucket in that final 5:22 of the third, with all four of their points coming off Durant free throws. The unbalanced scoring also continued, with Westbrook and Durant scoring 19 of OKC's 21 points in the period.

The fourth quarter was back-and-forth, but Oklahoma City's three-man game turned into a two-man assault. Durant and Westbrook accounted for all 28 fourth-quarter points and 47 of the Thunder's 49 second-half points until they checked out with 1:05 left in the game. Hasheem Thabeet added a garbage-time layup with 17 seconds remaining to cap off the win.

Thabeet was OKC's fourth-leading scorer with five points, while Kendrick Perkins did not score but did snag 13 rebounds.

Phoenix (13-27) only played eight guys but five scored in double-figures. Shannon Brown led the way with 21 while Marcin Gortat added 19 points and 15 boards.

Oklahoma City (30-8) is the first team in the NBA to reach the 30-win mark this season. The Thunder improves to 3-0 in the middle of a brutal road stretch. Including the past three games, OKC will play nine of 10 on the road against Western Conference opponents, but do get to host Denver Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m.
