TU Men Use Dominant Second Half To Fry Rice

Posted: Updated:

The Golden Hurricane used a strong defensive effort to hold off Rice 64-51 Saturday in Tulsa.

TU trailed by seven at the break, but held the Owls to just 18 points in the second half en route to the double-digit win.

Shaquille Harrison led the way for Tulsa (10-7, 2-1) with 14 points, eight rebounds, five steals and four assists. Pat Swilling Jr. added 12 off the TU bench while Kauri Black chipped in 10.

Tamir Jackson led the way for Rice (3-12, 0-2) with 14 points, five boards and five assists. Seth Gearhart was the only other Owl in double-figures with 10.

Tulsa outrebounded the Owls by an overwhelming 34-16 margin and held Rice to a 33 percent shooting clip. TU shot 52.8 percent from the field despite a dreary 2-11 from downtown.

Next up for the Golden Hurricane is a home date with UTEP on Wednesday, Jan. 16.
