An Altus man was sentenced to two years in prison for the illegal possession of a fully functional Claymore mine.

A judge sentenced 59-year-old Dale Howard Bruno to 24-months in federal prison for possession of the explosive device.

According to court records, Bruno stole the mine while serving as an Army instructor at Fort Sill in Lawton, Okla. An anonymous tip led police to discover Bruno in possession of the mine at the end of Oct. 2011. Bruno pleaded guilty to the crime in Sept. 2012.

In addition to his prison sentence, the judge also ordered that Bruno serve two years of supervised release.
