OKC Driver Accused Of Hitting Woman, Attempting To Hit Officer

Oklahoma City police arrested a man on New Year's Eve who's accused of hitting a pedestrian with his car, and nearly striking a police officer as he tried to drive away.

Police were called to N.W. 23rd Street and Purdue just before 6 p.m. on December 31. They found a woman lying in the street. Witnesses pointed out the car that hit her, and it was driven by 25-year-old Paul Nickolls.

Nickolls was attempting to pull out of a nearby driveway. An officer ordered him to stop and pointed his firearm at Nickolls. According to the police report, Nickolls continued driving toward the officer, forcing him to jump out of the way or be hit by the vehicle.

Nickolls tried to drive away but was stopped by traffic. The officer ran up to the passenger's side of the vehicle and once again ordered Nickolls to stop and exit the car. Nickolls ignored the command and began driving, once again nearly hitting the officer.

A few minutes later, Nickolls called 911 and told police he'd stopped at N.W. 13th Street and Vermont. Police surrounded him and forced him out of the car at gun point. He was then arrested and booked into the Oklahoma County jail on complaints of assault with a dangerous weapon, and leaving the scene of an injury accident.

The pedestrian was not seriously hurt.
