West Virginia guard Taylor Palmer had been killing the Oklahoma Sooners all night. Palmer had just hit her eighth three-pointer of the night to put the Mountaineers up 50-44 with 12:18 remaining in the game, giving her 30 points for the night.

Then, the OU defense buckled down, chipping away at the WVU lead and not giving up another point to Palmer. The Sooners came all the way back, defeating West Virginia 71-68 in the Mountaineers' Big 12 debut.

WVU's Brooke Hampton was at the free-throw line with less than one second to play with the score 71-67 in favor of OU, but Hampton only made one of the three free throws to seal the win for OU.

West Virginia led the entire first half and much of the second half, grabbing its biggest lead at 47-38 with 15:42 remaining in the contest. The Sooners were able to tie the game on several occasions, but didn't grab its first lead until Aaryn Ellenberg hit two free throws with 4:55 remaining to give the Sooners a 61-60 lead.

The Mountaineers dug their own grave in allowing the Sooners back in the game by committing 32 fouls, leading to a 39-13 advantage for OU in free-throw attempts. OU made 31 of its attempts, offsetting the WVU's nine three-point makes for the game.

Ellenberg led a balanced scoring attack for the Sooner with 19 points. Five OU players scored in double-figures, with Sharane Campbell chipping in 17 and Joanna McFarland scoring 13. Nicole Griffin had 11 and Morgan Hook had 10.

Palmer was the only Mountaineer to score in double-figures. Christal Caldwell had nine and Akilah Bethel had seven.

The Sooners travel to Austin on Saturday to take on Texas. Tip time is set for 12:30 p.m.
