Man Killed In Fiery Crash In Grady County

Posted: Updated:
OKLAHOMA CITY -

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says a 67-year-old man was killed early Monday morning after he was ejected from his car on Interstate 44 in Grady County.

The OHP says James Gordon Fulton of Elgin was driving on the H.E. Bailey Turnpike just before 4 a.m. It was raining at the time, and Fulton lost control of his vehicle around mile marker 76.3.

Fulton ran off the road and struck a concrete drainage ditch. According to an OHP report, the vehicle traveled up the wall of a bridge, and continued upside down along the bottom of the bridge for about 45 feet before falling to the road below. The car landed in the westbound lane of I-44 and burst into flames. Fulton was ejected from the vehicle. His body landed in the eastbound lane.

Fulton died at the scene. The OHP shut down all lanes of I-44 for more than two hours while troopers investigated the crash and cleared away the wreckage.

It's not known yet what caused the crash.
