TULSA, Oklahoma -

A couple of organizations representing two of college football's biggest rivals teamed up to raise $3,000 to help feed the hungry in Green Country Thursday.

Don Nelson, the president of the Oklahoma Cornhuskers Club and Erik Scott, president elect of the OSU Alumni Association each presented checks for $1,500, raised by the groups' members, to the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma.

The Oklahoma chapter of the University of Nebraska's alumni organization and the Tulsa chapter of the OSU Alumni Association took part in a Food Bowl Challenge, which started earlier this month.

"Next year, we do challenge all the alumni chapters in the Tulsa area to come back in and see if they can raise at least $1,500," Nelson said.

And thanks to the George Kaiser Family Foundation's pledge to match cash donations to the food bank dollar-for-dollar, the total donation comes to $6,000.

That means the food bank will be able to distribute 30,000 more meals to hungry families in the Tulsa area.
