OKLAHOMA CITY -

Winds topping more than 50 mph swept across central Oklahoma overnight, causing scattered power outages, some minor damage at homes and businesses, and even sparking a fire in northwest Oklahoma City.

Firefighters were called to a home in the 300 block of N.W. 32nd early Thursday morning. The homeowner said she woke up to find her house filled with smoke, and flames at the back of her house.

Fire crews arrived quickly and put out the flames. They determined the wind had blown down a power line. The line ignited a tree, and the flames spread to the house. There was no major damage and no one was hurt.

According to the News 9 Weather Team, gusts reached 54 mph. Those powerful winds damaged a few power lines, leading to power outages for about 2,500 OG&E customers in the metro, mainly on the north side of Oklahoma City.

The wind also caused minor damage at some businesses. At the Jimmy's Egg in Midwest City, the wind knocked down part of a sign. No one was hurt.

Meteorologist Matt Mahler says winds have calmed down, but will remain strong throughout the day, reaching between 20 and 40 mph.
