Sherard Poteete has been selected as the new head football coach at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M (NEO) pending approval from the OSU/A&M Board of Regents.

Poteete had been serving as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas. His appointment at NEO was announced by Athletic Director, Dale Patterson.

Poteete joined the TVCC staff in January of 2010. He came to TVCC from Louisiana College, where he coached for six seasons and held titles of offensive coordinator, passing game coordinator, special teams coordinator and quarterbacks coach during his time there.

Prior to attending NEO, where he earned all-conference honors as quarterback, Poteete was an all-stater from Union High School in Tulsa. After NEO, he continued his playing career at Southern Illinois University, where he was named All-Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Year.

Poteete will be the second NEO alum to lead the Norsemen as head football coach.

"We are thrilled Coach Poteete has agreed to step in and lead one of the most successful junior college football programs in the country," Hale said. "Coach Poteete and his wife, Jamie, are a perfect fit for NEO and the community of Miami. Coach Poteete will bring the leadership skills and the football knowledge needed to win at the highest level."

Poteete played four seasons as a professional in the Arena Football League where he set records for rushing, passing and touchdowns.

"My family and I are so excited to be headed to Miami, Oklahoma," Poteete said. "I can't wait to return home, and lead the Golden Norsemen football program. It is such an honor to be named head coach."

NEO Athletic Director Dale Patterson said, "I am very excited to have Sherard Poteete as the head coach for the Golden Norsemen. When this process started I had four criteria that I felt would be important to the success of the program: someone with experience, someone who would understand and appreciate the NEO tradition, someone who would be here long term so the program would have stability, and someone who knows how to be successful in the Southwest conference. Coach Poteete meets all these requirements. Sherard played quarterback for me when we won the first Southwest Conference Championship in 1998. I know his dedication to hard work, and I know his morals and values. He will be a great role model for our players. He and his family will be a great asset to our college and to our community."
