Students in Dibble gathered in the town's middle school gymnasium for a candle light vigil Monday. The group honored the victims of Friday's Connecticut school shooting with prayers and song.
The students organized the event and raised more than $700 for the victims' families.
"We decided something needed to be done for this. We wanted to do something and pay our respects," Mike Coszalter said.
Senior Harlee Davis said this is the first time she has ever experienced national heartache. These students were too young to remember much of anything about 9/11. But they now see the evil from Friday and are hopeful their prayers will offer comfort.
"We didn't know how to even react to it," Davis said.
More vigils are expected throughout the state and metro this week.
