Oklahoma's Own: Evan Anderson

Evan Anderson

Evan Anderson joined the News 9 team as reporter in December 2012 and is proud to now call the "Sooner State" home. Evan comes to News 9 from New Orleans where he spent most of his college and professional career.

Born and raised in Fort Worth, TX, Evan is only a few hours away from home, so he plans to dig his roots a little deeper in the great state of Oklahoma.

Evan's also no stranger to covering severe weather, he's covered a number of tropical systems in the Gulf, some eventually developing into major hurricanes. The most recent was Hurricane Isaac, a storm that took people in the New Orleans region by surprise as it made landfall as a Category 1 Hurricane. People were without power for days, and areas which had never flooded, were inundated in flood waters.

Evan was also one of the first reporters at the Belle Chasse Naval Air station in Plaquemines Parish after the BP oil rig exploded and sunk in April 2010. Rig workers were medevac'd there, and taken to the closest hospital. Evan was part of a news team which delivered wall to wall coverage, in what turned into the largest oil spill in United States history.

Evan Graduated from Dillard University in New Orleans with a Bachelors of Arts in Mass Communication in 2008. He attended Texas Christian University in Fort Worth in the Fall of 2005 after Hurricane Katrina flooded Dillard's campus.
After a brief stint at TCU, Evan returned to New Orleans to finish where he started. He became Managing Editor for the Dillard University student newspaper, "The Courtbouillon," was President of the Dillard University Association of Black Journalists, and was the Junior Class Vice President. But, it wasn't until his first television newsroom internship at WDSU in 2006, when he learned of his love for broadcast news, and since then, it's been full steam ahead.

In 2007, Evan was hired as Production Assistant and Assignment Editor at WVUE, the FOX affiliate in New Orleans before leaving to pursue his on-air career. During an internship at WPIX in New York, Evan was offered his first reporter job at KATC, the ABC affiliate in Lafayette.

There he got his first dose of Louisiana Hurricanes. Barley into the second week on the job, Evan covered Hurricanes Gustav and Ike in the Lafayette area. After about a year at KATC, Evan was offered a job at WVUE In New Orleans where he spent a little over three years as anchor and reporter.

Evan has been recognized by the Press Club of New Orleans, and is a 2007 scholarship recipient.

In his spare time, when Evan is not chasing down a story, he plans to enjoy what Oklahoma has to offer.
