Editor's note: News On 6 usually does not report on suicides, as a matter of policy. We made an exception in this case because hundreds of people saw the aftermath and would want to know what happened, and because the incident directly affected other people, especially the driver of the truck.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is investigating an apparent suicide on the Creek Turnpike Friday morning.

Troopers say 60-year-old Walter Richardson jumped off the Sheridan Avenue bridge over the Creek, landing on the hood of an eastbound semi truck.

Witnesses told the OHP a car stopped in the southbound lane on the bridge just before 9 a.m. Richardson got out and jumped.

The OHP says Richardson was pronounced dead at the scene.  The truck driver, 33-year-old Clayton Johnson of Sapulpa was not injured.

The incident slowed traffic on the Creek Turnpike.
