OKLAHOMA CITY -
An Oklahoma
City chiropractor is back on the job, after being arrested during a vice sting.
He's accused of propositioning a patient for sex in exchange for his services. His
attorney says he did nothing wrong, but his patient feels otherwise.
It is more
than just a case of he said she said. This patient says she has text messages
to prove her case, and even worked with police to set up that sting.
"It's just
not acceptable, to me, for it to happen," said Katie Sperber.
Sperber
says she went to Sells Chiropractic on the advice of a work friend. She says
her first visit was complimentary, which she expected, and that Dr. Sandy Sells
was very professional. But she says after the second visit that changed.
Sperber
says Sells texted her late at night, not to see how she was doing, but for
something else entirely.
"When I
asked him what he was referring to he would reply with ‘I'm a man. I'm pretty
sure you know how we operate,'" said Sperber.
Sperber says
she felt that crossed the line and that she offered to pay Dr. Sells for his
chiropractic services via text and in person. But she says he refused.
"He didn't
really [have a reason to refuse my money]. He just said ‘We'll work something
out.'" she said.
Sperber
says she went to the police, who suggested she wear a wire to her next
appointment. So she did.
"And I got
up and got my stuff and he grabbed me by the back of the hair and said that he
was a hair puller and he pulled me in and tried to kiss me and at that point
said ‘Be at his house on Wednesday.'"
A few
minutes later, police went into the clinic and arrested Sells. Attorney Ed Blau
is representing Sells. He says the chiropractor has a sterling 11-year record
with the Oklahoma Board of Chiropractic Examiners and is shocked by the
allegations
"When all
the evidence comes out it will show that there was absolutely no crime
committed and Dr. Sells actions were ethical in every regard," said Blau.
Sperber
says she just fears this has happened to other patients, who may be too
embarrassed to come forward.
"I'm fully
aware I could have walked away from this and done absolutely nothing, but if I
could spare this from happening to anybody else that would be enough for me,"
Sperber said.
Dr. Sells
is out on bond and has yet to be formally charged. News 9 also checked with the
Oklahoma Board of Chiropractic Examiners. It says there has been no
disciplinary action taken against Sells, and so far, he has no complaints on
file.
