LOGAN COUNTY, Oklahoma -
A Logan
County man was startled to find a body on his rural property, Wednesday. Even
more shocking, and something of a mystery to investigators, is the fact that
the body may have been there for months.
The
homeowner who discovered the body hadn't been to his storage unit since June.
On Wednesday afternoon he was horrified to find a man's corpse propped up on
the wall of his shed.
"I saw the
body and I just turned around and left because I knew it might be something bad."
The
homeowner who discovered the body didn't want to be interviewed on camera, but
says he's shaken up. After six months he decided to cross highway 105 to check
on his property only to find mounds of trash and a body
"Wasn't a body,
mostly skeleton. It looked like he has been there for a while. I don't know if
was the guy who had trashed the house."
The man immediately
called a friend then authorities.
"It appears
to be a male between the age of 30 and 60 wearing summer time clothing. No skin,
nothing in the eye sockets and the mandible was hanging open," said Capt.
Richard Stephens. "I am hoping with the medical examiner's process they can
possibly do a reconstruction of the face."
Deputies
can't tell if the deceased was murdered here or if the body was dumped.
"Nobody was
supposed to be over there. So ain't no telling what was going on," said
neighbor Bobby Ray.
After
interviewing people who live off of rural highway 105, authorities have their
work cut out for them and people who live here are a bit on edge.
"I have
been here since I was 7 years old…and I got two teenage daughters and my wife,
elderly mother live over here. So it's definitely something that will spook you,"
said Ray.
Logan County
Sheriff's deputies say they have checked missing persons' reports and homicides
in neighboring counties but nothing has come up. Now they will have to wait for
the medical examiner to identify the body.
