Norman Police Search For Armed Robbers Targeting Students

Norman police officers are on the hunt for armed robbers who are accused of targeting residents at an apartment complex near the University of Oklahoma campus.

Residents are receiving safety notices from the complex, located at 2900 Oak Tree Ave. in Norman, warning them to be on alert. Police are now looking for at least four suspects.

"[The complex is] in a remote area," resident Jordan Bush said.

Students who live at University Greens say they are being targeted by thieves.

"It's left us a little cautious," Bush said.

Police say there was an armed robbery in the parking lot just after midnight on November 20. The complex sent out notices following a burglary on December 3. On December 10, police say there was another robbery just after dark.

Police say all of the crimes may be related.

"We have what we believe are valid leads, and we are pursuing those actively," Capt. Tom Easley with Norman police said.

Students say they are keeping late hours this week studying for finals. Police say students need to stay alert.

"I was going home, and it seemed like someone was following me," OU student Rodney Matambo said. "I'm more aware of that kind of stuff now."

University Greens would not go on camera. Police say they have stepped up patrols in the area.

No detailed suspect descriptions have been released, but police do say they are looking for a group of black men.
