It's that time of year, where giving becomes a top priority and a Tulsa manufacturer is taking that to a new level in hopes other businesses will follow suit.

It's an act of kindness to the tune of $10,000, all from a business that does not want to be identified, but hopes its generosity will spur others to pay it forward.

In the back of the Kmart at 51st and Harvard are two women playing the role of Christmas angels.

Kelly Pike and her friend Terry work for an unidentified Tulsa manufacturer.

Their job Monday was to spend $5,000 of the company's money on layaways at this Kmart and another $5,000 on layaways at a Tulsa Walmart.

"Oh, I love it. This is my favorite part of the job," Pike said.

The owner of their company wanted his name and the name of his business to stay secret, but he did have a very specific goal: pay off the bill for parents who have their kid's Christmas presents on layaway.

"Christmas is one of his favorite holidays and it's just really important for him to do this every year," Pike said.

While they were at the cash register, Kelly and Terry ran into Brandi Vann, from Sapulpa.

They took care of her $77 layaway bill, leaving her shocked and nearly speechless.

"Yeah, because I've never had it done before," Vann said.

Pike said the owner of her company is challenging other businesses and manufacturers to do the same and become layaway angels. He said it's important for corporate Tulsa to dig deep and spread a little holiday cheer.

"There's a lot of families that are struggling and the economy hasn't been the best, and we just think it would be great if everyone else could step up and do the same, and then everyone could have a wonderful Christmas," Pike said.

As for Brandi Vann, she said she plans to have just that—a wonderful Christmas.

She said the money she saved thanks to these layaway angels, will mean more presents under the tree for her young daughter.

"I appreciate it a lot, she'll be really excited," Vann said.

Kelly Pike said they were able to pay off the layaway bills for 30 families, just at the Kmart.

This is the second year the company has done this and Pike said they plan to keep doing it in the future.
