A convicted killer escapes from jail and is still on the run.

A Department of Corrections spokesperson tells News 9 Jason Bales was last seen around 7:15 Monday morning at the Mack Alford Correctional Facility in Stringtown.

Bales is serving life without parole for killing his girlfriend's mother Stephany Glass in 2006.

At the time of the crime, Glass didn't approve of the then 23-year-old Jason dating her 16-year-old daughter Jordan.

He was convicted of strangling her, dousing the body in acid and then burying Glass in a shallow grave.

Yesterday, the Department of Corrections thought Bales may have been hiding somewhere in the jail but after an extensive search of the medium security prison, they know he escaped, but cannot figure out how.

The fence around the prison was not cut and there was no blood on the razor wire.

If you see Jason Bales, you're urged to call local authorities.
