OKLAHOMA CITY -

One man is behind bars after a bizarre scene at a metro apartment complex where the man attacked and killed his girlfriend's dog. It happened at the Britton Courtyards apartment complex, 7000 W. Britton Rd.

The complex has kept officers busy in recent months. Now, neighbors are outraged after police say a man killed his girlfriend's dog, then threatened to kill himself.

People who live at the complex say they could hear the schnauzer-terrier mix crying from inside a unit. Moments later, witnesses say there was silence.

"It was really loud, like it was being hit," one neighbor said. "I didn't know what was going on."

Police say 25-year-old Levi Marcus Raper kicked his girlfriend's dog to death after it went to the bathroom inside the apartment.

This case of animal cruelty is not the only black eye for Britton Courtyards. In January of this 2012, a man was shot at the complex. In November of 2011, there was a home invasion where men with guns threatened a grandmother and her grandchild.

"Over here, you have to stay to yourself," resident Steven Rowe said. "You can't trust [anybody] … there's a lot of robberies."

Neighbors say they were not surprised to see officers taking Raper to jail. Once inside the police car, officers say Raper started banging his head on a glass barrier so hard he began to bleed. Witnesses say he then threatened to kill himself.

In 2008, Raper was convicted of a DUI and obstructing an officer. He now faces two counts of animal cruelty.

Officers also arrested Raper on an outstanding warrant out of Cleveland County relating to his prior DUI conviction.
