Angelo Lewis powered the Mid-America Christian University Evangels to a 75-65 victory over the Johnson & Wales University Wildcats (Colo.) in the final day of the Southwestern Christian University Classic Saturday afternoon (Dec. 1) in Bethany. The win is the Evangels' second straight and moves them above .500 at 4-3 on the season.

The Evangels led 29-27 at the break and with the score knotted at 35-35 early in the second half, Lewis scored eight points to fuel a decisive 14-0 spurt over the next 3:30 for a 49-35 advantage.

Consecutive buckets by Josh Minner and Lewis stretched the lead to as many as 16 at 67-51 before a three by Chris O'Neal capped a 12-2 spurt for the Wildcats that trimmed the edge to six with 2:22 left.

But Lewis put it away with back-to-back scores that put the lead back to double-figures with just 46 seconds left.

Lewis led all scorers with 20 points on 10-of-14 shooting along with four rebounds and a game-high five steals. Jarius Wilson tallied a career-high 19 points and also had four assists, while Minner added 12 points. Yuri Hager pulled down a game-high seven boards.

Aaron Lampkin led the Wildcats with 15 points and O'Neal added 14.

The Evangels also enjoyed a huge edge on the boards, out-rebounding the Wildcats 40-27 overall and 14-6 on the offensive glass.

Next up the Evangels will play an exhibition contest at former Sooner Athletic Conference opponent and NCAA D-II member Oklahoma Christian University on Thursday night (Dec. 6) at 8 p.m. in Edmond.

MACU has already defeated an NCAA D-II opponent in Edmond this season, besting the University of Central Oklahoma 87-84 last Tuesday (Nov. 20).
