Finding the best-suited teachers for Oklahoma City's students is top priority.
OKLAHOMA CITY -
A shortage of teachers in Oklahoma has the state's biggest school
district scrambling to find qualified professionals for our children's
classrooms.
Tonight News 9's Chris McKinnon goes Beyond the Bell to show us
Oklahoma City's strategic plan to get more teachers in schools.
The number of college graduates entering the teaching field
continues to plummet, between 2011 and 2012, the number of education majors in
state schools dropped by nearly 1,500 adding to the stress of filling more than
100 current vacancies.
Finding the best-suited teachers for Oklahoma City's students is
top priority.
The shortages range from region to region but the middle of the
country has one of the worst teacher shortages. Luckily, as Oklahoma City continues
to become more desirable, more people will be attracted to living here.
If you're interested in teaching, Oklahoma City Public Schools
partners with different organizations that help certify people to become
teachers.
