Getting Fit with CrossFit

I'm not the most physically fit person, but I'm trying my hardest to change that ... with CrossFit.

I'll be the first person to admit it. I'm not in the best shape. And I haven't been in good, consistent shape since my freshman year at OU, all the way back in 2001-02. I was at the gym all the time with a good friend who helped keep me accountable. After my freshman year, I let the college lifestyle get the best of me in terms of what I chose to eat, which usually wasn't healthy. Working out became something I couldn't (or maybe didn't want to…) fit into my schedule. There's usually an excuse, right?

I made going to the gym a more regular occurrence once I graduated college and moved to Wichita Falls. First job, new start, new gym! I was excited. Over the course of my three years there, my visits were sporadic at best. I eventually joined the local Y, started swimming, and actually lost some weight! But surprisingly, it became too expensive for a single membership, so I backed out.

Now I'm closing in on my third year in OKC and after even more failed attempts to establish a solid fitness regime, I've finally found one. And wouldn't you know it, it all started with accountability. Not only that, but it's a program where I'm actually experiencing results! You've probably heard of CrossFit at one time or another. I had heard of it, but didn't really understand what it was. Was it a program? A specific set of moves? Something like P90X? (Which I also tried…) From the official website itself: A regimen of constantly varied, functional movements performed at high intensity in a communal environment leads to health and fitness. It's a mouthful, but it's also a perfect definition! Combine that with a healthy diet (that's difficult at times, but worth it…) and I can already feel myself getting into the best shape of my life and I've been in the program for almost a month! It's not always easy, but it's worth it! I'm finding out just how capable I am of getting fit! It's amazing how much better you feel!

I love being lazy, but I knew I needed a change when I stepped back and looked at my eating and workout habits. They were pretty terrible. When I was approached by a couple of guys at church who already knew CrossFit, I leaped at the opportunity. Some of the workouts are really, really tough, but it's worth it!
