WAGONER COUNTY, Oklahoma -
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has renewed the reward
offer of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of
the two men who shot an elderly Wagoner man and stole his weapons on
Thanksgiving 2011.
The Wagoner County Sheriff's Office requested OSBI assistance with the shooting
and attempted murder of 74-year-old Kenneth Payne on Thanksgiving morning.
About 7:30 a.m., Payne was at the Fort Gibson Wildlife Management
Area Shooting Range sighting in several of his guns when someone shot him
multiple times and left him for dead. Payne was able to call a family member on
his cell phone for help.
At least four guns were stolen from Payne as well as a gun caddy. Payne, who is
retired from the Air Force, lived only a few miles away.
The OSBI is releasing a photograph of one of the stolen rifles, a rare Mitchell
Black Lightning .22 magnum rifle. The picture attached is from the Mitchell‘s
Mausers website. Since this firearm is unique looking, investigators believe
someone may recognize it and can lead officials to it.
