OBU Signs Local Standouts To Softball And Track Squads

A Piedmont Wildcat and a Bridge Creek Bobcat are soon to be Bison. Oklahoma Baptist has announced the signing of Emma Nelson from Piedmont to their softball team; and Abby Mayfield from Bridge Creek to their track and field squad.

Nelson is an All-State selection who also earned All-Conference and All-Region honors. She was a key player in helping Piedmont to the 2012 4A State Finals.

Nelson batted .471, scored 55 runs and drove in 23. She also had one home run.

Emma is the daughter of Ed and Alane Nelson.

Abby Mayfield of Bridge Creek High School was 4A State runner-up in the 100 meters with a career-best 12.31 seconds and third in the 400 with a personal best 57.72 seconds. She placed third in the 400 and fourth in the 100 in the Meet of Champions.

She was Little All-City as a sophomore, winning State in the 100 and 400 and was fifth in both those events in the Meet of Champions under Bridge Creek High coach Skip Ashworth.

Mayfield will run the 100, 400 and 4x100 and 4x400 relays at OBU.

Abby is the daughter of Darren and Marcy Mayfield. She plans to major in sociology.
