TULSA, Oklahoma -

Emergency crews responded to an apartment fire, rescuing several people, three of them children who were critically injured.

Tulsa Fire and EMSA responded to the fire at Bradstone Apartments, at 12th Street and South Quaker Avenue, around 8:40 p.m. Tuesday.

Tulsa Fire spokesman Stan May said six people were transported to area hospitals.

According to EMSA, three young children, one confirmed to be a female, were transported in critical condition.

EMSA said it also transported a 53-year-old woman and a 57-year-old man, both in critical condition, and a 51-year-old man in fair condition.

EMSA also had two patients refuse to be transported to a hospital.

A resident told News On 6 that she thought the fire started in her apartment. She said she was in the bathtub when her brother smelled smoke in the apartment. As they went out, she said she saw flames coming from the small closet that houses the water heater. The woman said they then went door-to-door, yelling at people to get out.

Chief May said three units have some sort of fire damage. He said the fire started in a bottom unit, and investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.

The Red Cross said the property's management planned to put the displaced residents up in a hotel overnight, and Wednesday, the Red Cross will assist the residents with a place to stay, financial assistance, food and clothing, as needed.
