A jury in Oklahoma County took just two hours to convict a 14-year-old boy of killing his 9-month-old sister.
Crystian Rivera was found guilty Thursday afternoon of the first-degree murder of baby Linda Beletzuy.
Prosecutors said in August 2011, Rivera became frustrated because the child started crying while he was playing a video game. Prosecutors said Rivera slammed the child to the ground and shook her, causing a fatal brain injury.
Sentencing has been set for November 30 at 9 a.m. Because Rivera was tried as a youthful offender, he'll likely receive 18 months in a program under the Department of Juvenile Affairs.
The prosecution, however, is pushing for a life sentence in prison. That means if Rivera gets into trouble while he's in the program, or anytime after he's left it, he could be taken into custody and forced to serve the entire life sentence.
